Therapist with child playing on floor

The Infant Development Program has experienced therapists who are trained to work with young children on walking, talking, and using their hands (gross motor, speech-language, and fine motor skills).

We have specialized skills in a variety of areas, such as sensory integration, oral motor and feeding difficulties, neuro-developmental therapy (NDT), and augmentative communication. Technology such as communication devices, computers, and mobility devices can be accessed as needed.

We involve the family in all aspects of therapy to enhance the effectiveness of the child's individualized therapy program. Therapy sessions may be several times a week to once a month depending on need.

Physical Therapy can help children who

... are weak or fatigue easily.
... have poor balance.
... are stiff and have difficulty moving.
... are not sitting, crawling, or walking when expected.

Occupational Therapy can help children who

... are not using both hands equally.
... have trouble stacking blocks.
... have trouble reaching and holding toys.
... seem extra sensitive or fussy when cuddled, during bath time, or have trouble sleeping.

Speech Therapy can help children who

... have a lot of choking or gagging when nursing or eating.
... are not making sounds or developing speech when expected.
... may have speech delays due to frequent ear infections or hearing loss.

Why contact the Infant Development Program?

if your baby is having trouble gaining weight and/or eating,
if your baby seems stiff or difficult to hold or diaper,
if your baby doesn't seem to be developing as quickly as you would expect,
if your toddler is late talking, difficult to understand, or not following simple directions,
if your toddler is not walking yet, or seems clumsy compared to his peers,
if your baby has a medical diagnosis or was premature and you'd like to do all you can to attain typical milestones of development, or
if you want peace of mind to know where your child is developmentally and what to expect next.

Referrals are welcomed from physicians, parents, and other early intervention programs. Private insurance plans and other medical payment sources are accepted. A sliding scale is available if necessary.
